Disclaimers:
The cabin is off-grid, and although efforts have been made to make the stay as comfortable as possible, there are still limitations that are inevitable with an off-grid cabin, such as a limited battery supply for lighting. We provide plenty of battery powered lanterns to use alongside the battery powered ceiling lights to extend the lighting later into the evening. We also have a generator on site if needed. The water for the sink is currently supplied by a large water jug and must be used sparingly to avoid running out. Tap water is NOT suitable for drinking. There is no shower available currently, although we do have plans to install an outdoor shower in the future. There is no Wi-Fi at the cabin. There is cell service, however we encourage you to stay “unplugged” and enjoy the comfort of the cabin, the outdoors, and the many exciting adventures the area has to offer.
The natural terrain on the property makes for beautiful scenery but does not lend itself to persons with mobility issues. There are multiple paths to the water, all involve walking down a hill, which means you have to walk up as well. It is difficult terrain, but our elderly parents make the trip up and down multiple times when they visit, so it is manageable. It is also not recommended to let small children explore without adult supervision. The property is great for dogs as there are no roads or neighbours nearby, but owners are reminded that safety of their pets are the owner's responsibility.
The driveway into the property is fairly bumpy. As a result, a vehicle with a higher ground clearance is recommended, but cars can make it as long as they drive carefully and follow the posted signs. Smaller trailers can make it into the driveway, and there is a space at the end to turn around with a small trailer. Longer trailers will not make it down the driveway, but space for parking is available along the side of the private road near the entrance of the driveway.
Our canoe is available for use but is fairly heavy (about 70lbs). It is locked up after the rapids so it doesn’t need to be taken down the hill, but moving it to the other side of the rapids will require some work. We have two paddles and two adult life jackets available at the cabin.
Much like Algonquin, the garbage situation is “carry in – carry out”. You can take the garbage to the local dump for a small fee, or you can take it home with you.
